Permissions

Project Permissions

You might not want the Crumbs issue context to appear in all Jira issues. For example, it might make sense for your support and sales teams to link issues to customers, but it might make less sense for your software engineers in their projects.

This is why we introduced project permissions. With project permissions, you can decide who can use the Crumbs context and in which projects.

Project settings

To access the project settings page, you must be a project administrator.

To quickly get started for all users in a project, you can use the Crumbs project settings page:

  1. Go to a Jira project.

  2. Choose  Project settings.

  3. Find and click on Crumbs on the project side bar.

  4. Under Display customer information using the Crumbs issue panel for all project users. > switch the toggle to .

Check out the following sections if you need more fine grained control of project permission. This will be different depending on if it is a Company-managed project or a Team-managed project.

Company-managed projects (classic)

To configure permission schemes in company-managed (formerly classic) projects, you must be a Jira administrator.

Every company-managed project has a permission scheme. A permission scheme grants users, groups, or roles their permissions in your projects.

To use the Crumbs context and link Jira issues to customers in company-managed projects, you must grant the 'Crumbs - View Context' issue permission to appropriate users, groups, or roles.

To add users, groups, or roles to a permission scheme, and grant them project permissions:

  1. Choose  > Issues.

  2. Click Permission Schemes.

  3. Scroll to the permission scheme you would like to update and select Permissions in the Actions column to view the scheme.

  4. Scroll to the Crumbs - View Context permission and click the Edit link.

  5. Choose one of the available options to grant the permission.

Team-managed projects (next-gen)

To configure project permissions in team-managed projects, you must be a project administrator.

In team-managed (formerly 'next-gen') projects, any permission or access you want to give people in your project is controlled on the Access page. Here you can add people to your project and give them a role so they can start collaborating on your team’s work.

If you would like users in your project to be able to use the Crumbs context and link Jira issues to customers, you must create a role with the 'Crumbs - View Context' app permission and assign it to your users.

  1. Choose  Project settings

  2. Select Access and click Manage roles at top right of the page.

  3. Click Create role and enter an appropriate name and description.

  4. In the App permissions tab, select the Crumbs - View Context permission.

  5. Assign the role to an individual user or group using the field at the bottom of the dialog.

Global Permissions

If you'd like to tighten up permissions for using Crumbs, there are three global Jira permissions available:

  1. Crumbs Administrator

  2. Crumbs Manager

  3. Crumbs User

Global permissions are system-wide and are granted to groups of users. To configure them, you need to be a site administrator:

  1. Choose System.

  2. Click Global Permissions.

To grant global permission:

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the Add Permission section.

  2. Select the permission you want to grant in the Permission dropdown.

  3. In the Group drop-down list, select the group you want to grant the permission to.

To revoke global permission for a group:

  1. Locate the global permission you want to remove for the group.

  2. Next to the group you want to remove that permission for, click Delete.
